CAT Eligibility Criteria

The official criteria for CAT 2021 is yet to be released, and it is expected to be released in August 2021. In order for one to be eligible for giving the CAT EXAM, they need to meet the criteria given in the official notification. However, not much is expected to change in regards to criteria from the eligibility criteria prescribed for the previous years.

The eligibility criteria defined differently for the General and Reserved categories based on the percentage of marks in Graduation.

General and NC-OBC (Non-creamy Layer –Other Backward Class)
  • Candidates must possess Bachelor’s Degree securing a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (Cumulative Grade Points Average)
  • Candidates must hold professional degrees like CA (Chartered Accountant)/ CS (Company Secretary)/ ICWA (Institute of Cost and Work Accountants with 50% marks.
  • Final year student or those awaiting results from this category are eligible to apply for CAT. However, they should have scored a minimum of 50% marks when their results are declared.
SC (Scheduled Caste)/ ST (Scheduled Tribe)/ PwD (Persons with Disability or DA (Differently Abled)
  • Candidates from SC/ ST/ DA must have graduated with a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent CGPA (Cumulative Grade Points Average).
  • Candidates holding professional degrees such as CA, CS or ICWA with a minimum of 45% of marks.
  • Final year students or those awaiting results of this category, are eligible to apply for CAT. However, they should have scored a minimum of 45% marks when their results are declared.

NOTE

  • Final year students, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only upon submission of a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of the College or institute stating that the candidate meets all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification) on the date of issue of the certificate.
  • If your Bachelor’s degree is in grades or CGPA, your percentage of marks would be calculated on the basis of the procedure your respective University/Institution follows.
  • Suppose your University/Institution does not have a procedure in place for converting your CGPA into percentage/marks. In that case, your marks will be calculated by dividing your CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.
  • If your Graduation is not recognized by UGC/AICTE/MHRD-Govt. of India, you are not eligible to apply for CAT 2020
