What is CAT?

CAT stands for Common Admission Test. It is a computer-based management aptitude test to secure a place in one of the 20 IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) and over 1200 prestigious B-schools in India. The test aims to evaluate and shortlist candidates for the business administration programs (MBA – Master of Business Administration or PGDM – Post Graduate Diploma in Management) in the IIMs and various other management colleges and institutes.

It won't be wrong to call it one of the most competitive exams in the world and over 2 lakh candidates apply for the examination almost every year. It consists of three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA).

CAT is conducted only once every year by one of the IIMs (Usually by the 6 older IIMs - IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow) on a rotational basis. IIM Indore conducted the exam in the year 2020. IIM Ahmedabad is expected to conduct the CAT exam for 2021.

The official notification for CAT 2021 is expected to be released in the last week of July 2021, and registration should begin in August 2021. It is expected to be conducted in November 2021, and results should be out in January 2022 tentatively. CAT Exam 2021 will be conducted in more than 150 cities and in more than 400 venues.
